Want to learn some creative ways to get traffic, leads, and sales for your MLM business?
I’ve rounded up a few creative (yet powerful) MLM strategies along with the steps to execute them.
Check it out.
1. The Tomoson Strategy
Have you ever thought about sending your MLM products out to bloggers for them to review?
Well as you already know, there are lots of MLM companies that have unique, quality products.
What you may not know – is there are lots of bloggers looking for great products to review on their blogs. Bloggers that have large, targeted audiences.
Sending your products over to them so they can review it and share it with their audience can be a great way to generate product sales.
Let’s take a look at the strategy in action:
A while ago, I stumbled across an MLM company called “In A Pikle” and landed on this In A Pikle review:
The first thing I noticed was the message above the fold:
Thank you In A Pikle for providing me with a product to review, free of charge. These are my own honest opinions.
The owner of In A Pikle sent the blogger the product for free in exchange for her to review it.
And it looks to have worked out really well. Take a look at a few of the comments from the readers:
And did you see that call-to-action?
She threw in the works:
What about the residual sales that you can get with this?
That review has been ranking (for a variety of “In A Pikle” keywords) on the first page of Google for years:
If the product is getting a consistent flow of searches in Google, then you could be getting a consistent flow of sales.
In the case with In A Pikle, the average monthly Google searches ain’t too bad:
Now, with this review, the readers are being sent to the main MLM company site to buy the product.
However, to ensure you get traffic and credit for the sales, you simply need to let the blogger know what you need done within the review.
So you would request to the blogger to reference you as the consultant/Rep/IBO and state you are the go-to person to buy the product.
And like the example above, you can request to have your contact details, social media links, link to your own blog, or whatever you want within the review or call-to-action.
How Do I Find Bloggers That Will Review My Products?
There are platforms that connect both parties:
- People looking to review products.
- People looking to have their products reviewed.
Small blog owners will be happy to write reviews for free, but you obviously have to send them the product on the house:
Blogs with larger audiences will be looking for a bit of money.
The key is finding the right blogs and being able to get a good idea on whether or not the time and investment will be worth it over the long haul.
Here are a couple of platforms where you can check out offers from bloggers and post jobs.
Check them out and you’ll see how it works:
Tip: When the post goes live, it would be a good idea to promote it and monitor the comments so you can answer questions and assist those who are interested.
Ninjitsu: You can also have bloggers review your entire MLM company – the business opportunity, products, team/customer support, comp plan, the works. (I’ve seen it done before).
Also, if you have a blog, you can sign up as a blogger. These platforms are great for discovering new programs. And who knows, you may stumble across something you like.
Speaking of new programs….
2. Review Programs As They Hit The Marketplace
As you probably know, ranking on the first page of Google for popular MLM companies or programs is difficult. As the sharks are more than likely already on it.
But if a program has recently launched, there will most likely be nothing about on Google. A simple blog post or video and you can slip right up there and get first dibs on the traffic.
In other words, programs that are new to the marketplace will have low competition and may have high Google searches.
They are excellent targets!
Here are the 4 steps to the strategy:
- Discover new programs
- Check the competition
- Check the Google searches
- Produce content about it
I’ll briefly walk you through each step.
Step #1 – Discovering new programs
Whenever a program launches, the word usually gets out on community forums and social networks. Especially on forums that allow members to post about new programs.
At DreamTeamMoney, members can announce a program and add their referral link. But they have to be the first to. They can’t post about their deal if it has already been posted.
This rule makes these types of forums great for discovering new programs.
I checked out the “MLM and Home Business Opportunities” section and discovered a program called MLMGateway:
The name tells me that it’s geared towards network marketers – which is right up my ally.
A quick look at the website and I can see that it’s some kind of MLM social network and lead generation platform.
It’s also free to join, which is ideal because you can explore the platform for free which will make for a good review:
So far, so good.
Step #2 – Check the competition
Before I check the amount searches, I like to quickly run a Google search to see what’s going on.
Right off the bat, I can tell it would be easy to rank for. For starters, the top two results aren’t even self-hosted blogs. They are sub-domains on free blogging platforms.
- WordPress.com (not WordPress.org which is the self-hosted version)
It’s a good sign, as serious and competitive bloggers don’t run these types of blogging platforms.
Going through some of the links, I can see that majority of the content is low quality. It seems as though a lot of it has been rehashed from the MLMGateway website.
There is also a lot of “thin” content. In fact, one of the results only has a couple of sentences:
Google is not a fan of thin content nor low-quality content. But in this scenario, they don’t have a choice, because it seems as though they don’t have anything better to show in their search.
Within a couple of minutes, I was easily able to come to the conclusion that ranking on the first page of Google for this particular topic would be easy pickings.
Step #3 – Check the amount of Google searches
If nobody is searching for your topic, then it’s not worth the time (or money) producing content for it.
However, some bloggers (including myself) sometimes don’t care about the competitiveness nor search volume. If they have an experience with something or whatever the case may be, they’ll go right ahead and post about.
This strategy is good if your site doesn’t have much (or any) traffic, or you just want to get an extra boost in traffic.
In my example, I can see that the program is getting more and more popular.
It’s currently pulling in 1,500 – 2,000 monthly searches:
These are some huge numbers considering the competition that’s currently out there.
The smart marketers who are currently ranking for this program are cleaning up, big time. They are getting lots of targeted traffic and they did very little work for it.
This is just an example of one of the many “gold nuggets” out there. And there are always new programs, companies, social networks, tools, etc that hit the marketplace.
But you can’t just sit on the sidelines. You need take action on them and get some content happening.
This brings us to the next step.
Step #4 – Produce Content
You have a couple of options:
- Outsource it
- Do it yourself.
There’s nothing wrong with having a writer do the job. Below, I’ve listed a good content marketplace where you can get quality articles written at a good price.
If YouTube videos are your thing then fire up your screen recorder and go through whatever you’re reviewing.
When it comes to creating content, whether it be a video or blog post, it’s just a matter of going through the product and sharing your experience and honest opinion about it.
Update: So I explored the MLM Gateway platform and ended up doing a review on it. Give it some time and I’ll update this post and show you how it performs.
Tools and Resources
MLM Blog Setup – For those that don’t have a blog, this guide will show you how to set one up (self-hosted WordPress).
These are the steps I used to create MLMwarfare.com. You should be up and running with your first blog post in no time:
Google Keyword Planner – Those screenshots above, where I show the keyword monthly search volume, where taken from the Google Keyword Planner.
The tool is designed for people looking to advertise on Google. But it’s good for content marketers to have a quick look at keyword search volumes.
The Google Keyword Planner is free. It’s just a bit of a hassle signing up and getting started with it.
Long Tail Pro – This is a premium keyword research and competitor analysis tool. It provides way more valuable data than the Google keyword planner.
Add your keyword and it will dig up loads of related long tail keywords. It also tells you on a scale of 1 – 100 how difficult it might be to rank in Google for any given keyword:
If you’re looking to really dig into this strategy, then this tool will defiantly be worth the investment. It will also come in handy with some of the other MLM strategies in this post.
HireWriters – This is a content marketplace where you can find experienced writers to write articles for you.
As you can see, their rates are insanely low:
Like most article writing services, you get what you pay for. So I wouldn’t expect high-quality articles at $5.
If you’re dealing with a keyword that has no competition, then a cheap article will do the job.
However, I wouldn’t recommend posting low-quality content nor thin content on your site. I would be looking for expert writers that can produce quality content at a fair price.
3. The IBO Dominator Technique
IBO Dominator is the secret weapon used to tap into IBOtoolbox and pull in traffic and leads.
Now, for those that don’t know, IBOtoolbox is a free social site for network marketers and home business owners. It’s currently the most widely used MLM social site going:
The platform works like Facebook in a way that you can send friend requests and messages.
With IBO Dominator, you can send friend requests on auto-pilot and message your list of friends (IBO Associates) with ease.
The strategy is to simply add a link at the end of your messages, kind of like a signature link.
This video takes you through IBO Dominator and the strategy:
4. The Sniply Strategy
Sniply is a free tool that allows you to attach your link or “call-to-action” to any piece of content.
The screenshot below is a blog post from Ted Nuyten’s direct selling news blog
Check out my call-to-action:
Pretty cool, right?
Think of the possibilities here. You can generate leads simply by sharing great content that others have created.
I’ve put together a solid strategy for this:
- Round up a bunch of good articles
- Convert those articles into Sniply links
- Schedule articles for social media (1 week in advanced)
- Rinse and repeat once a week
I’ll walk you through it.
Step 1: Load Up On Content
The first thing you’ll need is access to a consistent flow of new, quality content.
A nice, free tool to get this happening is Feedly. It will organize a load of blogs and news sites in one place.
In my case, I’ve got an eye on all the popular MLM blogs as well as the popular blogs in other areas such as SEO, internet marketing, social media, blogging, etc.
I can simply scroll through all the latest articles (or choose a specific topic or blog) and check out all out with ease.
So I’ve got a ton of fresh content on tap:
Once you are loaded up with all the best blogs in the business, go through all the latest articles and start picking out the ones that catch your attention.
I would shoot for articles that have attention-grabbing headlines. A list of about 15 – 20 will do.
Step 2: Create Your Sniply Links
The free version of Sniply gives you up to 1,000 clicks per month which is more than enough.
Creating a Sniply link is easy and takes less than a minute.
In this example, I linked to my MLM forums post, but if you’re looking to get leads, then add a link to your capture page:
Sniply will save your call-to-action, so this will save you a lot of time creating all your links.
Once you have converted all of your articles into Sniply links, move onto the next step.
Step 3: Post out to your social media channels
Schedule your Sniply links to go out over the course of a week, across all the main social media sites.
Here is a good posting schedule to follow:
- Facebook – 2 times per day, at most
- Twitter – 3 times per day, or more
- Google+ – 3 times per day, at most
- Linked – 1 time per day
There are lots free social media scheduling tools out there if you currently don’t have one.
The one that I recommend is MassPlanner (premium):
Ninjitsu: Target Facebook Groups.
They are great places to drive targeted traffic, as most network marketers are on Facebook and lots of them are a part of groups.
Now, most posts you see in Facebook groups are basically people just promoting their deal, you rarely see something that stands out, or is of high value.
But with this strategy, you’re not pitching your deal like everyone else, you’re posting the best content from around the web, which will stand out and attract clicks.
Another advantage is that if someone clicks on your Sniply link and shares the article, your call-to-action will still be there. So a post can bring in a wave of traffic and leads from other people sharing it.
You may do well with Facebook groups alone, if that turns out to be the case, then I recommended the FB Groups Poster V2. It’s designed specifically for FB groups and it’s a cheap, one-time purchase.
Step 4. Rinse and repeat
It can be tedious work and it may take you a while to get everything done with the first few rounds…
As there will be a learning curve getting familiar with the tools, finding good posts to share, etc. But the more you commit to it, the better you’ll get at it.
And, eventually, not only will you get leads but you’ll build a large social media audience in the process.
5. Hijacking Social Shares
If you have a great piece of content, then one of the many ways to spread the word about it is to simply ask people to share it.
But you don’t just ask anyone, you ask those who have already shared similar content to what you have.
As the people most likely to share your content are those who have already shared something similar in the past.
There are 3 steps to the strategy:
- Find highly shared content (similar to what you have)
- Create a list of prospects
- Introduce your content to them
I’ll walk you through steps.
Step 1: Find highly shared content
A nice, free tool for the job is Buzzsumo. You just enter a keyword that is related to your topic and it will show you the most popular content based on social shares.
In my case, I’m looking for highly shared content that is related to this post.
I struck out with “MLM strategies”, but ended up getting good results by searching “MLM tips”:
So I’ve got plenty of articles related to my topic and that have racked up lots of social shares.
Step 2: Create a list of Prospects
Click on View Sharers and you’ll see all the people who shared the post.
These are the people most likely share your content. After all, they’ve already shared something similar:
Start creating a list of prospects. Note down their Name, Twitter ID, and email address. You’ll want to target those who have a large social audience.
A customer relationship management (CRM) tool would be ideal for this strategy, though you can use an excel spreadsheet.
By the time you’re done, you’ll have a fistful of prospects who will most likely share your content, or at least be interested in it.
Step 3: Reach out to your prospects
Time to get the word out.
A good way to contact them is to head over to their website and message them through their contact form.
Something along the lines of this:
I noticed that you shared a post by [Author Name] on [Post Topic]. Great stuff!
I thought I’d reach out to you because I have a similar post on [Post Topic] that is [Benefit About Your Post].
Here’s the post: [Link]
Thought you might enjoy it.
If you can’t find their website or email address, then you can hit them up on social media.
A simple Tweet might do the trick:
Hey, [@Name]. Just checked out [Post Name or Link], and really liked it. Here’s a similar post that you might like: [Link].
Just a handful of shares can send you a wave of new visitors, which can lead to more shares and more traffic and so on.
Update: Unfortunately, you now need the pro plan to “View Sharers,” which is too expensive for small businesses. I’ll update soon with some alternatives.
6. The Simple Method To Rank Your MLM Business On The First Page Of Google
There are lots of MLM distributor directories out there.
These services claim you’ll get tons of leads and recruits by listing your MLM business in their directory.
But most of them don’t work at all. Their rep listings don’t rank well on Google and their sites have hardly any internal traffic.
Furthermore, their sales tactics are shady and dishonest, and their prices for premium listings are outrageous.
There’s a better way, and it’s completely free.
What better way to rank your MLM business on Google than by getting listed on Google itself?
There’s an average of 1,500,000 people per month that type “Herbalife” into Google.
That statistic alone tells you it would be near impossible to rank on the 1st page of Google for that keyword, right?
Well take a look at these distributors:
And they’re not just showing up for “Herbalife,” they’re showing up for lots of other keywords:
But the thing is, Google is showing these particular distributors because their “Distribution Service” is located close to where I live.
So, basically, everyone who lives in your local area and searches Google for a sales rep (or those keywords above) will find you.
That being said, the amount of phone calls and leads that you can potentially generate with this method will mainly depend on the popularity of your MLM company.
If your company pulls in a lot of search volume and has tons of products in demand, then it’s worth getting listed.
Before you go for it, be sure to do a bit of research on setting up and optimizing a Google+ local business page.
It would also be a good idea to check out listings and pages from other distributors to see what they’ve done.
Wrapping It Up
I may add more MLM strategies to this list later down the line, but for now I’m gonna have to tap out.
So what do you think?
